Task 1.
Maps and Charts.

A brief history of Cartography

Cartography (from Greek Χάρτης, chartes = map and graphein = to write) is the science of studying and making maps. Cartography has been around since the 9th Century BCE with the worlds oldest surviving map of the Babylonian world.

The ancient Greeks and Romans created maps, Anaximander being a recognised Cartographer in the 6th century BC. Ptolemy created "Ptolemy's World Map", known as "Ecumene" in the Western Society, this was part of "Geographica". Later on, Arab scholars we're translating Greek Cartography works into the Arab language. The medieval maps are known as Mappa Mundi, and there are over 1000 of them present. Some 900 of them are manuscripts.
